About Us

We are a local group of caring citizens working to help retire Tembo and Sunda to The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee.  Some of us are part of Animal Outreach of Kansas, an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit group.  Others are folks who simply love elephants and want to do everything they can to help Tembo & Sunda retire at a beautiful sanctuary and end their decades of boredom and suffering in an unnatural environment at the Topeka Zoo.

But this is no small local movement.  People all over the world are rallying to free elephants from zoos and circuses.  The country of India, for example, now requires that all elephants in zoos be returned to their natural habitats in reserves and sanctuaries.  Many U.S. zoos have already released their elephants to either The Elephant Sanctuary or the Performing Animal Welfare Society

If you wish to get involved, you can contact us at temboandsunda@gmail.com, make a comment on our blog, or sign our petition.  You can also help by clicking on the "How to Help" tab and send emails and letters, and make phone calls to City Council members and the Zoo Director.

We will be posting updates frequently about our progress and other ways you can help.

Thank you for caring.
